Taraba: Again, Flood Wreaks Havoc In Jalingo metropolis

A heavy downpour on Monday at Abuja Phase 1 in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, has left residents counting their losses.

Many houses were submerged and destroyed by the rain.

The rain, which started at about 1 a.m., lasted several hours, a situation which led to flooding in the area and some parts of the Jalingo metropolis.

The victims, who are now seeking government intervention, lamented that a large portion of their valuables has been washed away by the flood.

Anita Sunday, who conducted our state correspondent around her apartment, said apart from the clothes she had on, others had been overtaken by water.

While calling on the government and well-to-do individuals to come to their aid, she urged the relevant authority to construct drainage in the area to forestall a recurrence.

Citing the damages wreaked on the area last year by the flood, she expressed sadness at how the flood is resurfacing without the government deeming it fit to come out with preventive measures.

Aligning his weight to that of Anita, Uloma Eze, another resident, said, “I was disturbed when I came back from work this morning and saw my apartment being taken over by floods.”

Other victims who pleaded with the government, well-to-do individuals and corporate organisations to come to their aid.

While some victims were observed to have relocated to friends’ and relatives’ houses, DAILY POST reports that some are patiently hanging around and waiting for the flood to subside.

No government official had made any statement about the issue at the time of filing this report.
