Haliyah Hales speaks on struggles of women in music industry

A singer, Ifedolapo Arowolo, aka Haliyah Hales, has said that women in the music industry struggle more than their male counterparts, because it is assumed that they do not stand the test of time in the industry.

In a statement sent to Saturday Beats, she said, “I believe a lot of female artistes, including me, can do better when it comes to their music by never giving up. It is much more challenging (for women), and easier for the men in the industry to network and to meet people based on their talents. They don’t necessarily have to deal with sexual discrimination.

“Some people believe that female artistes do not stand the test of time in the industry. So, it is hard for people to invest in female artistes, mostly because they feel that when the female artistes get married and have kids, it would be harder for them to make money.

“I believe that female artistes work 10 times harder than their male counterparts. It is no secret that in the music industry, there are more males than females. It is undoubtedly a male-dominated industry.”

The Canada-based singer, who recently released the video for her song titled, ‘Pressure’, is also a songwriter, model and nurse. Before her latest track, she had released ‘Whine Am’, which enjoyed favourable reception
