What Is The Sokoto Governor’s Connection With Homosexualism?
As of the latest update, there are several verified information, from multiple credible sources, that have alleged about Sokoto State's Governor being gay and, or, being sympathetic to homosexualism. As a public figure, information like that is often dismissed as rumours and misinformation, so it's essential to rely on credible sources for accurate information. Such is the case here.
More importantly, many of his dire hard supporters and closet loyalists have on several occasions been either caught in the act of sodomy or insinuated to be so. To add credence to this, there is this video, widely circulated, where supporters of the Governor are seen in a very almost unclad manner, indecently dressed, celebrating via roadshow, which suggests jubilation towards gays. And another during the celebration of the Governor’s electoral victory. Also done in a manner that leaves much to be desired. To date, neither the Governor nor the Government of Sokoto state has in any way condemned these actions that negate the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Not a single arrest has been made. Why? Maybe such a public display of Sodomy pleases the Governor.
The 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, is very clear on this matter.
By the Nigerian Criminal Code Act applicable in Southern states, unnatural offences are prohibited under Sections 214 to 217. These sections specifically criminalise acts considered unnatural, such as having carnal knowledge of a person, permitting a person to have carnal knowledge of one against the order of nature, or having carnal knowledge of an animal, and those found guilty may face legal consequences as outlined by the law. This provision of our laws is re-echoed by Section 284 of the Nigerian Penal Code applicable in the Northern part of the country. it is imperative to note that same-sex marriage is strictly prohibited in Nigeria. The Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act of 2014 criminalises the solemnisation, operation, and public display of same-sex marriages.
The position of Islam is very clear on homosexuality. Nevertheless, the Hadith do unequivocally condemn male homosexual acts. The Qur’an (4:16) demands unspecified punishment for men guilty of lewdness together unless they repent. Abu Dawud’s authoritative hadith collection records a report from Abdullah ibn Abbas: “The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: If you find anyone doing as Lot’s people did, kill the one who does it, and the one to whom it is done (38:4447).” So, why should the Governor or his supporters who are practising Muslims be linked to sodomy and public acts of homosexualism? It is quite shameful and unfortunate.
Even though several sources and people have made the allegation that the Governor practices homosexualism, to date he is yet to debunk or deny all of these allegations levelled against him. Some of those alleging were close allies of the governor, political associates, and critical stakeholders.
It will interest readers that a Facebook user on the 10th of August made a very strong allegation that he was being told to give his body for sodomy in other to enjoy specks from the government. According to this Facebook user, he vehemently refused, claiming he “prefers to die poor” than to give in to those unholy demands. The sexual preferences of the Governor are of public record in Sokoto state. Almost like a consensus. The silence of the governor and the government of Sokoto state in the face of these multiple allegations questioning his sexuality and sexual preferences is suspect.
In a bid to divert public attention from that August 10 Facebook post, the Governor ordered the arrest of a young Tambuwal supporter for sharing a post where the Wife of the Governor was seen partying and spraying dollars. A video that was already in the public space, had even gone viral. This young man was not even the first to post that video. Worthy of mention is the fact that the August 10 Facebook publication which had gone viral is still trending, all over the Country.
